Remembering
Min. Franklin Florence
"Action for a Better Community joins the rest of Rochester in expressing our sorrow on the passing of Minister Franklin Florence. On behalf of ABC's board and staff, we send our deepest condolences to Minister Florence’s family and friends.
As a Rochester civil rights icon, Minister Florence was a stalwart in creating job opportunities for black people. In doing so he was also instrumental in improving the dignity of black people and did yeoman’s work in raising the status of blacks in Rochester to more respectable levels. As the founding president of FIGHT he also aided in the development of several community-based organizations, including ABC. He was a staunch advocate for greater black representation in all community-based agencies, government, and the private sector.
Minister Florence has left a rich legacy of fighting for what is morally right. He has inspired many to do the same. We at ABC will continue to honor his exemplary legacy through our work to achieve equity and justice for those who have been systemically marginalized for far too long."
