HIPSY
High Impact Prevention Services for Youth
What is HIPSY?
High Impact Prevention Services for Youth (HIPSY) is a state-funded program that provides HIV/STD prevention, access to health care, and other supportive services for high-risk youth ages 13-24 years old. Services include:
- Free and confidential peer-to-peer outreach within the community
- Evidenced-based prevention workshops
- Individual sessions that help youth set individual prevention plans, referrals, and youth events
Because statistics show that 1 in 5 of all new HIV infections are youth 13-24 and 50% of all new STD’s diagnosed each year are youth 13-24, this has become a public health approach to disease prevention in which proven, cost-effective, and scalable interventions are implemented for preventing the greatest amount of infections, given the available resources.
