Join Us at the 2026 Signature Awards Breakfast!

Some of our community's greatest assets are the outstanding volunteers and leaders who generously give their time to strengthen our community. The greater Rochester community has a long and distinguished history of philanthropy, advocacy, and courageous leadership.

On January 22, 2026, Action for a Better Community, Inc. will honor three outstanding individuals and a remarkable corporation for their advocacy, commitment to reducing poverty, and vital work in building a stronger community. Honorees will be recognized with four prestigious awards during ABC's Annual Signature Awards Breakfast.

Honoring Community Champions

Please help us by nominating deserving individuals and a corporation for these awards. A brief description of each award is listed below. Be sure to review the award criteria and nominate people who truly embody the spirit of each award. Each of the awards honors the unique qualities of its namesake and recognizes how that spirit lives on to this day.

Signature Citizen of the Year Award

Since 2001, the Signature Citizen of the Year Award has recognized individuals whose professional and volunteer efforts have expanded opportunities and improved the quality of life for all in our community.

James M. McCuller Award for Excellence

Established in 1994, this award celebrates individuals who, like the late James McCuller—former ABC Executive Director—embody a commitment to self-improvement and service to others.

Lena M. Gantt Distinguished Community Service Award

First presented in 1984, this award honors those who dedicate their lives to community service, mirroring the legacy of Lena M. Gantt, a devoted advocate for positive change.

ABC Corporate Citizen Award

The ABC Corporate Citizen Award is presented to a corporation that exemplifies community action and values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and justice. This award celebrates a corporation that has actively advanced opportunities for historically marginalized families in Monroe and Ontario counties.
