Through the effective implementation of Key Competency Goals for Head Start program staff working with families, as established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this position will: actively recruit and enroll children in the Head Start program, engage in collaborative partnership building with parents and community, establish trust and identify family goals. This position will work with families to build on their individual strengths and assist each family in moving toward their goals related to self-sufficiency.

 

Qualifications/Education and Experience:

 

  • Associate’s Degree in Human Services, or the equivalent combination of education, (60 Credit Hours of college courses), preferably with Family Development Credential, and a minimum one year of direct experience working with families or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. All Family Developers will be expected to complete the Family Development Credential within the first two years of employment with Action for a Better Community, Inc.
  • Requires a basic knowledge of local Human Services and community agencies/services available to the public.
  • Requires the ability to deal with people at all organizational levels; and good administrative, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and oral and written communications skills.
  • Requires the health and physical capability to work in an office, classroom or home setting in the community.
  • Must be able to lift children weighing up to 40lbs.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to obtain clearance to be left unsupervised with children by the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and the NYS Central Registry (SCR)
  • Pass the biannual physical exam.
