#700BrothersRoc

#700BrothersRoc aims to bring health promotion and self-health awareness to 700 African American men through barbershops. It engages patrons through a combination to screenings, education, linkage to services, empowerment, and community. Focused in various barbershops throughout the City of Rochester, the initiative connects the participants to doctor’s offices, screening centers, & health coverage options with the help of local barbers, ABC Community Health Advocates & local partnerships.

African American men have a higher risk of developing chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and prostate cancer. This is often due to the fact that they do not utilize primary care or preventative care and if they do, it is not until it is too late.

#700BrothersRoc unites and activates our brothers in Rochester to empower themselves and one another to build a stronger and healthier community.

This pilot initiative is supported by a grant from the Greater Rochester Health Foundation.
