Position: Education and Disability Services Specialist
Hours: 37.5/wk, 52 wks/year
Summary of Responsibilities:
To coordinate the educational goals and objectives of the Head Start Performance Standards; to provide educational leadership to infant/toddler teachers and coordinate the identification of and provision of services to children with suspected and diagnosed disabilities and their families. To plan, develop, monitor curriculum implementation and supervise center infant/toddler education staff.

Qualifications/Education and Experience:
v Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with certification B-2nd grade; or a related field with at least 12 credit hours in Early Childhood Education; and preferably a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
v Three to five years teaching in the field of Early Childhood Education; two years supervising classroom teachersexperience working in infant-toddler environments, and one year working with low-income families.
v Working level knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and current theories in Early Childhood Education (Birth to pre-school), New York State childcare regulations, early childhood assessment, evaluation, and special education laws and regulations.
v Working level knowledge in the use of a personal computer.
v Requires ability to deal with people at all organization levels; good administrative, interpersonal, training, organizational, planning and oral and written communication skills; and an aptitude for directing and motivating people.
v Requires the health and physical capability to work in an office or classroom environment and to lift up to 40 lbs. Ability to participate in crisis intervention which may include, but not limited to running, bending, stretching, sitting or kneeling on the floor.
v Experience with low-income families and children with disabilities preferred.
v Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation.
